Princess Oressa Madalin of the kingdom of Carastind loves sneaking into places she isn't allowed to go. When she overhears her father, the king, talking about a coming war, Oressa determines to save Carastind--but to do so she may have to defy her father. Allying herself with Gulien, her brother, Oressa goes to see the Kieba, a woman who controls the magic of a thousand dead gods on her unfathomable mountain. However, the invaders know about the Kieba, and want her power for themselves.
