In a world where shamans have the power to speak with spirits, gods, and the dead, high schooler Manta Oyamada finds his class's new transfer student from the faraway Izumo, Yoh Asakura, is training to become a shaman.

Yoh Asakura, a shaman who can channel spirits, seems to have squandered his chance to become Shaman King as Ren liesunconscious, with only Lady Jeanne to save him, if she holds up her end of the bargain.

The competition is paramount for Yoh Asakura when he enters a tournament held once every five hundred years, and knowing that first prize would allow him the title of Shaman King, Yoh faces the best shamans from around the world.

Shaman Yoh Asakura withdraws from the Shaman Fight, and the story of his past with Anna is revisited to examine how their relationship, and possibly a terrible secret, have shaped Yoh's fate.
